Looking for an influential opportunity to work at the nexus of policy, Tiriti settlements & te Taiao?
- Do you have particular expertise in writing and engaging with others?
- MfE is a proud flexible by default employer - work from anywhere around the NZ motu
As leaders of Aotearoa New Zealand's environmental system we ensure tāngata whenua are able to influence and lead the recovery of Aotearoa New Zealand's environmental wellbeing.
To ensure this, the Ministry for the Environment has recently established a new business group - Tūmatakōkiri. Like a Tūmatakōkiri (star), our role is to foretell and foresee upcoming conditions but to ensure we stay the course, mitigating any possible challenges ahead. We work to ensure the Ministry is setup for long term success, with systems and processes that enable us to deliver on our Te Tiriti obligations, as well as our aspirations and commitment to work with Māori to co-produce policy.
Our focus is not only to ensure we are able to ‘bring the Treaty of Waitangi and te ao Māori into our work everyday', but that we articulate what actions need to happen, what systems need to change, and what skills we need in the Ministry to ensure we can do that. We operate on the values of Manaakitanga, Whakapapa, Mana Manaaki, Tangata Whenuatanga, Kōrero Awhi and Tikanga.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Māori Governance, Performance and Delivery team are pleased to open up a permanent opportunity for a Kaitātari Kaupapa Here Matua / Senior Policy Analyst. You will play a pivotal role in influencing and supporting the delivery of the Ministry's objective to work with Māori to co-produce policy and see the Treaty of Waitangi reflected in environmental decisions.
You will review a broad range of documents from across the Ministry to support our advisors, managing requests through our single-entry request register, Tono Āwhina. You will form trusted relationships internally and work towards an uptake in reviews so that our work is more impactful.
We take a strategic approach to change. By utilising the knowledge gathered through our advisory panels and our wider teams across Manatū mō te Taiao, you will work towards creating resources and toolkits to support high-quality policy advice. You will enjoy sharing these resources Ministry-wide and providing coaching support if necessary. Particularly helpful will be your ability to navigate through our environment balancing multiple competing priorities and requests for information.
As a Senior within the team, you'll also be motivated to share your knowledge and expertise with others, be willing to maanaki and mentor more junior colleagues and ensure that we are continuously improving how we do things.
The Ministry looks to provide organisational flexibility to respond to changing work priorities. It is expected that Senior Policy Analysts at MfE will be flexible to work across other areas of the Ministry as business or development needs require.
