Our Organisation | Ko wai mātou
It's not very often something happens that's big; like, really big. Big to the point that it will touch the lives of every single person in the country. That's what we're talking about here. The provision of health in Aotearoa New Zealand, and how it's run is about to change in a big way.
Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora will together shape the delivery of health services in NZ for generations to come and will form the core of a modern and integrated service looking after the needs of all our whanau.
The culture within the Design Practice is collaborative, fun and quirky with a serious love of all things design. It's a place where top senior talent enjoy working on challenging design projects alongside up and coming designers keen to learn from that experienced talent pool in a supportive and nurturing way.
The Opportunity | Te whiwhinga mahi
A unique chance to join a rapidly growing and evolving Design Practice within Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand. We're currently home to over 17 designers who specialise in a wide range of disciplines, including Service Design, UX, UI, user research and content design. Across a wide range of programmes and projects, we harness human-centred design and innovation to re-invent and refine our services to meet the needs of health consumers and providers.
As Principal Service Designer you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of Service Design as a discipline. You will lead the creation and modification of services through the planning and orchestration of the organisation's resources with the intention of realising better customer experiences and outcomes while delivering operational efficiency and business sustainability. You will be responsible for advising and supporting other leaders in developing and delivering strategy and determining how to solve organisational or clinical challenges, advising on the best course of action from a human-centred perspective.
As a member of the Integration and Design within the broader Data & Digital team, you will be joining a vibrant team of Service Designers, UX and UI practitioners and UI and UX Research colleagues. You'll also work alongside our multi-disciplinary project teams where there is a mix of tech delivery teams from both an internal and external provider environment who cover the complex world of integration, data, legacy systems and bespoke pilots. Our project teams also include Comms, Policy, Engagement specialists, BA's, Privacy and Security folk, plus Māori and Pasifika representatives and leads within their own programmes.
Our Service Designers have delivered clarity and value helping the many teams and multi-disciplinary teams understand the true scope of end-to-end journeys, the many touchpoints, pains and great potential found in current state and projecting out to powerful and meaningful future states.
About you | Mōu
You will bring your positive, persevering approach to solving complex problems and your passion to think of innovative ways to meet any challenge to bring value to our consumers, customers and vendors. You will be comfortable working with different teams, people and different ways of working and be a true team player delivering on team priorities. You will be someone who takes ownership of your work and strives to exceed customer expectations while being pragmatic and smart about when to push boundaries and when to plot big ideas for future states.
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- A minimum qualification of a BA (hons) degree in HCD, or related field/experience
- A minimum 15 years' experience in Service Design or similar roles, within large organisations across the public and private sector
- Knowledge of appropriate human-centred tools and techniques to elicit understanding, communicate progress, create and validate solutions (e.g. Design Thinking, service blueprints, journey and process mapping)
- Strong communication skills with the confidence and ability to present and defend decisions in a manner appropriate to the needs of the audience.
Previous work experience in government and knowledge of the health sector would be key for success in this role.
This role requires and/or would benefit from the following
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a willingness to learn and grow
Come and join us | Nau mai, uru mai
Benefits | Te painga o te mahi tahi me matou
This is a truly rewarding role where you will come to work each day making a difference, leading change, and creating capabilities across our health service. Te Whatu Ora supports flexible and hybrid working, offers learning and growth opportunities and gives all staff five weeks of annual leave per year.
