Te āhua o Te Tūrunga | About the (Science) Investment Manager role
This is an opportunity to get involved in initiatives that support important government goals like improving our environment, and better social and economic outcomes.
For this role, we are seeking applicants with a can do attitude that can take responsibility and be accountable for delivery of a diverse and varied work programme. As an Investment Manager, you will assist with the management of investment functions for specific funds.

You will be part of a small busy team responsible for a number of diverse science investments. Using your interest in New Zealand’s science system, relationship engagement and management skills you will develop enduring, constructive and informed relationships across Aotearoa’s science system

This Science Investment Manager role sits within MBIE’s Labour, Science and Enterprise Group, within the Strategic Investments team. We make, manage, review and advise Ministers and government agencies on longer-term strategic investments. This involves negotiating and influencing the impact of investment.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako | Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience in contract management to manage science investment processes and monitor contracts to ensure they are delivering against the policy intention.
- Broad knowledge of the New Zealand science system or an appreciation of the role of science in building New Zealand’s future.
- Knowledge of Vision Mātauranga and its relevance to New Zealand’s science system is desirable.
- Experience in operating investment processes or making decision recommendations about funding investment
- Experience working in a science related role either within a research organisation, industry group, university, business or government or some prior interaction with the science system.
- Some sector knowledge across economic, environment or social sectors is desirable.
- Previous experience in a role requiring stakeholder engagement and relationship management
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills - both verbal and written
- Must have the right to live and work in New Zealand
