Fixed Term Contract for 6 Months + Potential
- Flexibility & Work/Life Balance
- Auckland CBD Head Office or Wellington or Christchurch Office
**About the Company**
Our client, Good Shepherd New Zealand, is a member of a worldwide organisation concerned with creating a more emotionally, economically, and physically safe world for women. Its objective in New Zealand is to support better futures for women, girls and their whanau who are experiencing disadvantage.
A significant area of focus is on supporting the development of financial inclusion and microfinance programmes for New Zealand families living on limited incomes. Believing it is the right of all to have access to fair and affordable credit, Good Shepherd NZ work with key stakeholders including community-based organisations, corporate partners (including two commercial banks providing loan capital) and government to achieve that goal.
Domestic microfinance is becoming more recognised in New Zealand as a fair and safe alternative in the small credit market, and Good Shepherd NZ is currently in the process of expanding its microfinance programmes to meet the need that recognition creates.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to be involved in providing Good Shepherd NZ's phone-based debt coaching and solutions services (DEBTsolve) directly to the public.
**About the Role**
The Financial Wellbeing Coach is primarily responsible for the delivery of Good Shepherd NZ’s debt solutions services to clients experiencing financial hardship across New Zealand.
The services are delivered by phone through its DEBTsolve and Workplace Financial Wellbeing programmes.
Working primarily with clients referred by a network of Good Loans Advisors and Financial Mentors from around the country, the Financial Wellbeing Coach will assist clients with unsustainable existing debt, to advise and assist them in developing and implementing debt reduction plans, which may also include a debt solution loan for refinancing unmanageable debt.
Reporting to the Service Delivery Lead - Good Loans, the Financial Wellbeing Coach works closely with a team of Good Loans Advisors, Good Loans Lending & Assessment Specialists, Financial Mentors across the country, and with the wider Good Shepherd NZ team and microfinance partners.
Ideally the Financial Wellbeing Coach will work in Good Shepherd NZ’s Auckland CBD office but with offices in Wellington and Christchurch these are options.
The phone-based debt solutions service operates between 7.30am and 7.30pm to meet the needs of clients who are not able to call for an interview during normal working hours, so the ability of the Financial Wellbeing Coach to work flexible hours which will suit their work/life balance as well as fit with the team is preferred.
This is a fixed-term contract role for 6 Months with the possibility of extending. and it's a full-time role however more flexible arrangements could be possible.
**About You**
To perform well in this role, you will have experience:
- Working as a financial mentor, loan worker, budget advisor, debt counsellor and/or financial coach with knowledge of relevant financial capability and credit legislation and processes (e.g. KiwiSaver, insolvency, etc.)
- Handling casework, referrals and advocacy on behalf of clients with diverse cultural backgrounds and an understanding of the needs of people living on a low income
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, and ability to quickly evaluate information
- Competent computer skills, Microsoft Office and use of client databases, and well-organised reporting skills
Experience within a Not-For-Profit organisation or Social Services would be beneficial, but it is not critical. Most importantly, the ideal person will have solid budgeting, financial mentoring and debt negotiation experience; and present with a strong customer and service delivery focus.
Imperative to a successful expression of interest will be a genuine commitment to social justice values, that are aligned to Good Shepherd NZ.
