Te Kōtui Whitiwhiti | Digital Public Service branch supports the Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) to bring about a modern adaptive public service with the skills, technology and data to operate at pace and to meet changing needs. We work with and through agencies to drive and deliver a customer-centred digital government.

**About the role**

As a part of the Strategy group, the Digital Strategy Practitioners will work with the Director Strategy to help deliver the government’s priorities, and develop strategies and advice that drive service modernisation, leverage emerging technology, and optimise digital transformation in the public sector.

Specifically, Digital Strategy Practitioners are accountable for providing specialised digital advice to inform decision making that will enable a system shift to a unified public service.

**About you**

This role will suit digital experts with a strong strategic mindset, the ability to think holistically, and lead and influence across different levels to achieve outcomes.

You will be well connected and be able to leverage networks to create awareness and influence change. You will hold a position of respect and mana with stakeholders, partners, and industry leaders.

To ensure we are well positioned to respond to our ever-changing context, you will also continually build your capability to ensure your knowledge, skills, and expertise remain current.

**To be successful in the role you will have**:

- a proven track record and **considerable experience in one or more specialist areas **(eg driving service modernisation initiatives; leveraging digital technologies; optimising service delivery; emerging technologies; investment; privacy and ethics)
- deep and applied **understanding of government initiatives, relevant frameworks, standards, and best practices in the digital space **, including development of technology roadmaps and think pieces that generate discussion and influence a shift in thinking
- strong **understanding of government processes, including identifying the system levers **that can be amended to ensure optimised digital delivery in the public service
- strong **analytical and problem-solving skills **, and the ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions to address complex challenges
- excellent **communication skills **to effectively convey complex ideas, leverage relationships and networks to achieve outcomes, and influence decision-making at all levels

It goes without saying that you will have deep experience with machinery of government and the public service environment, have a proven ability to achieve outcomes and deliver to diverse stakeholder expectation, and be well-versed experienced engaging with iwi/Māori and the Crown.
