We have an excellent opportunity available for an experienced leader to manage our Christchurch operation. Reporting to the Operations Manager NZ, you will use your planning & organisational skills to safely oversee yard operations and productivity targets, coordinate logistics requirements, ensure the delivery of excellent customer service and bring a people focus to managing the team and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
You will be rewarded with ongoing mentoring opportunities and support from the Operational Leadership Team during your probation period and throughout your career within Sims, working for a sustainable growing business with class-leading technology.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Leading the team by sharing your vision in a safety-oriented operations environment at the premier South Island site.
- Maximise sustainable profit margins by establishing and implementing production goals, objectives and procedures in line with established budgets and forecasts. Achieving short and long-term continual improvement initiatives in line with key business goals and objectives.
- Use knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and continuous improvement techniques to maximise the effective processing of materials
- Coordinate transport collections across sites on the South Island, including transportation of stock out of Christchurch. Bulk Export assistance.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Strong scheduling, coordination, and planning skills to maintain optimum effectiveness of operations and logistics.
- Over 2 years of leadership experience in medium to large-scale teams, to effectively manage a high-performing team of our 20 - 25 staff in a dynamic working environment.
- Ability to build rapport, with a high customer service ethos
- A self-motivated approach, you will enjoy influencing positive outcomes in a fast-paced environment
- Previous experience driving safety and environmental initiatives, EHS management system, project management, SAP and SAI.

**Desirable criteria**:

- In-depth knowledge of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous metal sorting & processing techniques to international specifications being of high advantage
