Pathology underpins every aspect of medicine and plays a vital role across all facets of medicine throughout our lives.

The Department of Pathology within the Dunedin School of Medicine has a strong and growing research community focusing on cancer, developmental biology and molecular pathology.

While the department has a strong research focus, it also has an important role to play in the development of our Medical School students and those in Pathology, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science and Biomedical Sciences.

**_The role/Te mahi_**

As a Teaching Laboratory Technician you will ensure the smooth operation of the Teaching Laboratory for all undergraduate practical classes run by the Pathology Department. In this role you will also provide technical support to Researchers and the Compliance Manager as time permits, as well as assist in maintaining stock levels in the Department’s Research store.

**_Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako_**
- PGDip MLSc, BSc (Hons), MMLSc, or MSc, or relevant research level laboratory experience (essential).
- Previous experience in an undergraduate teaching laboratory (desirable).
- Working knowledge of basic experimental techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- An ability to prioritise work and perform effectively without supervision.
- An understanding of the issues related to working with human and animal material.
- The ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
- The ability to work under pressure.
- Accurate and detailed record keeping.

This is a fixed term position for 12 months.

This position is a full-time vacancy however, the department would consider the appointment of two part-time employees.
