Te tūnga | The role
This is a permanent role based in Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington reporting into the General Manager Organisational Delivery within our Transformation, Strategy, People & Resources Group.
As Senior Manager Planning and Reporting, your role will be focusing on leading the end-to-end organisation-wide planning process to deliver a multi-year work programme for Stats NZ.
You will be responsible for delivering annual and multi-year plans that ensure Stats NZ delivers to its long-term enterprise roadmap through our transformation programme. You will also be responsible for driving accountability through regular monitoring and reporting of the work programme and ensure senior leaders are clear on the connection between their planned activities and broader organisational performance.
You will work with others within the Organisational Delivery leadership team, and wider Transformation Strategy People and Resources (TPSR) leaders, to ensure that all organisational activities are integrated and connected to the longer-term priorities. This includes core delivery work, investment in projects and programmes, as well as transformational initiatives.
You will be comfortable building and maintaining strong working relationships across the organisation, using your expertise and experience to drive an uplift in planning and reporting capability with key internal stakeholders to raise understanding and maturity across Stats NZ.
This role isn't your standard management role. You will have the drive to come in and make this your own by uplifting our capabilities and you aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves.
Nōu te rourou | What you bring
You will bring a deep understanding of the machinery of government. We are looking for someone who brings a depth of experience in government planning and reporting processes, performance management frameworks and other external accountability obligations, and an understanding of the Public Finance Act. You will be able to drive end-to-end planning and reporting processes to enable Tatauranga Stats NZ to tell its performance story and demonstrate the value we create for New Zealand and New Zealanders.
We encourage and consider transferable skills and experience gained from outside of work e.g., cultural, community work, sports, volunteering, or a comparable role in a different sector or industry.
You'll be well versed in influencing and engaging across all levels of an organisation, working with a wide array of stakeholders, and have a proven organisational toolkit.
Your focus on exceptional business rigour, innovative thinking and pragmatic delivery will be highly regarded, as will your commitment to our kaupapa and values.
We want to hear about any of the following in your cover letter and CV:

- Understanding of the machinery of government and related processes and procedures (essential)
- Exceptional ability to navigate and lead in a public sector environment.
- Proven experience as a people leader with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a diverse workforce.
- Your knowledge and experience, or willingness to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori.
