About the Role│Kōrero mō te tūranga
We have a permanent Team Leader role within Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service at Ministry for Primary Industries. This role would suit someone who has experience leading a team of technical experts, while not necessarily being a technical expert themselves. This role requires someone to be comfortable operating in a regulatory environment.

**Core responsibilities include**:

- Leading a team of analysts and providing operational oversight of forestry participation in the Emissions Trade Scheme and Permanent Forest Sink Initiative.
- Provide leadership and direction for the team, ensuring robust processes are followed and staff have learning and development opportunities
- Establish and maintain successful and productive stakeholder relationships with key parties
- Negotiate complex operational matters and resolve escalated issues
- Leading and contributing to the development, documentation, review and improvement of Emissions Trading Scheme operational processes for staff
- Coordinating the delivery of advice to Managers, Directors and Ministers

About You│Mōu

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- People leadership experience, with the ability to build a strong team culture and get the best out of people
- Experience in managing a team through change, (both technology change and legislative change ideally)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A tertiary qualification in science, law, climate change or forestry is ideal, but not essential
- Ability to read and interpret legislation
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and work in a collaborative manner to succeed
- An understanding of the public sector and the machinery of government, including interaction with decision makers and stakeholders would be advantageous
- Knowledge of the forestry aspects of New Zealand's Emissions Trading Scheme is valuable but not essential
