Overview:
Newshub is the premiere news brand for Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ. It delivers world-class local and international news aimed primarily at a New Zealand audience across linear broadcast and digital platforms

This is a truly multi-skilled leadership role in the newsroom that will play a central role in the evolution of Newshub. It will have responsibility for implementing Newshub’s video first strategy online and will be a driver of innovation.

**Responsibilities**:

- Work closely with the Director of TV Bulletins and Director of Future Audiences and Engagement to develop an innovative plan to showcase different presentations of video news stories and bulletins across Newshub’s digital and social channels
- Trial and test delivery of new video news formats online using different presentation methods, scheduling and graphics treatments.
- Investigate and implement future development of our live streaming services that make the most of our video content with an “always on” mentality.
- Experiment with new virtual reality studio for digital news delivery
- Lead, or assist in the production of online breaking news specials.
- Identify and source potential story ideas and explainers topics
- Develop Vodcast opportunities from new VR studio - including working with integration on monetisation potential
- Mentor social media producer/reporters in presentation techniques
- Together with Director of TV Bulletins and Director of Future Audiences and Engagement, assess the performance of these formats to grow our digital performance and audience engagement
- Be a ‘champion’ of our video first strategy and become a leader in encouraging different thinking from producers and reporters in our newsroom
- Think creatively about how to tell stories using all production elements
- Give reporters direction on storytelling for video-led online news stories.
- Sub scripts for digital storytelling
- Flag any potential legal or BSA issues with the Director of TV Bulletins.
- Cut vision and publish stories for online coverage as required
- To ensure there is strong collaboration between the television and digital arms of the newsroom
- Provide feedback to producers and reporters to help them develop their craft
- The Employee shall ensure they are familiar with the Employer's health and safety policies and procedures, and any modifications to those policies and procedures that may be introduced from time to time.
- Carry out your work safely and without endangering or causing harm to yourself, fellow staff members, contractors, customers, visitors, or the general public.

Qualifications:

- Have impeccable editorial judgment
- Have a flair for creativity and innovation,
- An openness to trialing and testing product offerings to the audience A tertiary qualification, preferably in journalism
- At least six years of newsroom journalism experience
- The ability to use news video editing technology
- The ability to publish stories and hooks in newsroom CMS
- Experience with newsroom systems and processes
- A good understanding of digital news delivery
- Legal right to permanent, full time work in New Zealand
- Word-perfect editing skills
- A ‘breaking news’ mentality
- Strong understanding of publishing law and standards
- Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner in all working situations.
- Have regard for the requirements of the Media Council, the Broadcasting Standards Authority & the laws relating to libel, defamation and the invasion of privacy.
