**About the role**
The National Intelligence Centre (NIC) supports Police decision makers and front-line police to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.
The NIC is recruiting a Intelligence Systems Advisor who will be based in Police National Headquarters with the overall objective being to advise intelligence analysts on how to effectively access and utilise complex data rich information systems.
Your role provides an essential interface between the intelligence analysts and the complex systems that hold information necessary to derive insight and foresight.
You will also be involved in assessing systems and writing business cases for new systems which are likely to emerge with new technology.
By deriving better intelligence NZ Police will lower the risk of harm to Police staff, victims, the community, and offenders themselves.
**Key Accountabilities**
This role is accountable for technical analysis across information systems in the National Intelligence Centre. This is a broad accountability and could include documentation of existing data holdings, analysis of requirements, queries of structured and unstructured data across the Police Intelligence holdings to generate extracts, reports, or responses to OIAs and PQs. Working with the Geospatial team to inform their mapping needs.
This role will be a champion for data quality and good database design and may represent the Intelligence functions in Police data governance groups.
This role will work with Emerging Technology to ensure that the information systems used by the intelligence analysts operate in a fair and transparent manner and without bias.
**Key Tasks**
Contribute to the design, development, maintenance, and delivery of information systems used by the Intelligence teams.
- Define and develop business cases for technical intelligence systems.
- Query complex structured data using SQL, SAS, or R to respond to the demands of intelligence analysts,
- Maintain currency with and provide expert advice and technical guidance in data analysis.
- Interact with GIS analysts to help surface location-based measures derived from structured and/or unstructured data.
- Assist in the data and analytics skills development of intelligence and GIS analysts.
- Build strong relationships within National Intelligence, STG, AOFS and District Intelligence Managers
