The Wellington District Intelligence Unit supports Police to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.

We are looking to recruit a Lead Intelligence Analyst to join our team based in Wellington CBD. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic operational environment, with a specific focus on developing team capability to support delivery of quality intelligence across tactical and operational environments.

A Lead Intelligence Analyst is an advocate for the intelligence profession within District and across the organisation. We are looking for someone who will show innovation in methods of presenting intelligence to inform decision-making and build knowledge and recognition of the value-add Intelligence can provide.

A significant component of the role is to support the development of Intelligence capability across our multi-disciplinary team, which includes Intelligence Analysts, Tactical Intelligence Analysts, Intelligence Support Officers, and Field Intelligence Officers. As well as demonstrating Intelligence tradecraft and principles, you will bring a team-focused approach to coaching others on Intelligence tradecraft, support team development and foster a positive and productive team culture.

Your engagement in your own professional development will be shown through proactively growing your knowledge of policing and seeking feedback on your own work. Your willingness to get out and talk to people, and critically and thoughtfully engage with what you find, will enhance your understanding of the Intelligence contribution required to ensure positive outcomes for the District

Key Accountabilities:

- Use analytical expertise and critical thinking to conduct analysis of crime problems and policing issues to propose potential solutions.
- Manage competing priorities and demands to deliver timely, relevant Intelligence and achieve results for the team.
- Act as a technical advisor to the District Manager of Intelligence and contribute to the District’s Intelligence Leadership Team.
- Maintain currency with evolving Intelligence best practices and use this to enable the District Intelligence Unit to remain aligned with developing techniques and innovations.
- Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools/methodology and coach junior Intelligence staff to develop their Intelligence tradecraft.
- Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
- Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards team and personal development.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.
- Lead and collaborate projects and group analysis, provide regular peer review and project coaching, and work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems.
- Provide advice to decision makers (internal and external to the Unit) detailing the scope of intelligence capability and what Intelligence can provide to inform operational deployment activity.

**Special Requirements**
- New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent New Zealand resident
- Hold the NZ Diploma in Intelligence Analysis (NZDIA) or equivalent or able to complete NZDIA modules early in employment
