The Older Persons - Mental Health service provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient and community-based care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age-related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.
**Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)**
You will have current NCNZ registration and practising certificate, with no conditions that exclude Mental Health Scope of Practice, and a minimum of five years of post-registration nursing experience in OPMH. This role requires advanced nursing skill and theoretical knowledge to support models of care across the sector, particularly with complex patients.
The CNS - OPMH role models and mentors nurses to ensure the effective development of skills and delivery of care to people accessing health services across the continuum of care. There is an expectation of a strong commitment to ongoing education and training of self and others.
The CNS - OPMH will actively contribute to the development of the Health of Older Persons services in general and to the wider nursing community through quality improvement initiatives. This role positively affects quality patient outcomes and influences achievement of improved outcomes across multiple settings.
**You will have advanced knowledge of**:
- Physical and psychiatric disorders commonly experienced in older persons
- Contemporary treatment approaches including person-centred care, sensory modulation, therapeutic use of self and therapeutic use of psychiatric medications
- Adult education principles
- Mental Health assessment and care planning
- Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992
- PPPR Act - Welfare Guardianship
