**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
Our Senior Policy Advisors play a significant role in the regulation of work in New Zealand. You’ll be part of a team with a policy programme that directly impacts the lives of most New Zealanders. Our policy advice spans a range of Labour Market issues.

You will work closely with your team and our policy leaders to support a high performing branch that is also a great place to work.

We have Senior Policy Advisor vacancies in the following high performing policy teams:

- Income Insurance Policy team
- Skills and Employment Policy team
- Immigration Policy - Border and Funding team

**About the Teams**:
**Income Insurance Policy team - **The team is the Government’s lead advisor on income insurance, and both the social and economic impact of job loss. The work programme includes first principles advice, regulation and strategic policy.

**Skills and Employment Policy team - **The team provides analysis and advice on cross-system labour market issues, including the overall effectiveness of the labour market and key opportunities to improve it, lifting skills development and improving labour market performance for underserved groups.

**Immigration Policy - Border and Funding team - **The team provides advice on immigration legislation (the Immigration Act and the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act), border settings, and the funding of the immigration system. We work towards a fit for purpose immigration system underpinned by sustainable funding, secure borders and efficient and effective regulatory settings.

**About the Branch**:
The Employment Skills and Immigration Policy branch leads the government’s advice on labour market issues. We work with a range of government and non-Government stakeholders to facilitate good labour market outcomes from a set of regulatory and non-regulatory systems.

You’ll be part of a team filled with smart and committed policy professionals with excellent policy craft skills and domain knowledge. We have a positive and engaging work environment in which you can thrive while addressing some of the tricky policy issues that impact New Zealand’s businesses and workers.

Given the unique nature of our systems, you will enjoy working collaboratively and alongside others, including Māori. You’ll be up for leading a full and interesting work programme that spans multiple Ministers and attracts significant attention.

All of our teams work closely with our operational counterparts, so you’ll get good experience at making sure our policies are well implemented.

Our Senior Policy Advisors work across different levels to share their own knowledge with others. With the wide variety of work across the different policy areas, there are numerous development opportunities to grow and build their careers within MBIE.

We are looking for motivated people with experience in solving complex problems and formulating high-quality policy advice for a range of stakeholders and projects.

Ideally you will:

- have experience leading complex policy projects within central government
- understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and have applied it in public policy and in partnership with Māori
- have wide ranging knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- build strong stakeholder relationships, using influencing and engagement skills to gain the cooperation and commitment of others
- have demonstrated capability in working with Ministers, senior public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
- have a passion for leading and coaching others to develop their policy craft and take their careers to the next level
- be able to work through ambiguity and deliver results
- the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
