Mō te tūnga | About the role
As an Internal Auditor you will undertake a range of internal audits and reviews to assess and report on aspects of Corrections' performance, capability, governance, risk management and internal controls. You will work with a Principal or Senior Internal Auditor to complete your work which includes carrying out interviews, analysing data and evidence, making judgements on the adequacy of process and controls, and formulating relevant improvement recommendations. You will be part of a team of six seeking to provide a modern, responsive Internal Audit service to the Department that works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team, the Audit and Risk Committee and assurance providers both inside and external to Corrections.

- a critical thinker, with good judgment, that can join the dots between information and identify constructive and practicable ways to improve systems and processes, and
- a good communicator (both verbal and written) that can distil and convey complex issues and findings simply and succinctly.
You do not need to have internal audit experience or hold a degree in finance or accounting. But you will need to have a relatable tertiary qualification or previous experience in an advisory, review or assurance role.

- Demonstrable skills and ability to identify issues, analyse results, formulate opinions, make conclusions and recommend solutions.
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with a diverse cross section of people across a range of organisational levels.
- Able to write in a clear and concise manner and an effective verbal communicator.
- Proven ability to critically evaluate and distil information and evidence from a range of sources.
- Experience in contributing to reviews, audits, evaluations or investigations.
- An understanding of the provisions of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a willingness to embrace Tikanga and develop competence in Te Reo Māori.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The salary range for this role is $$66,411 to $93,756 (midpoint $78,130). Appointment will be based on skills and experience relevant to the role.
