**Te whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity**

Private Secretary roles are challenging, varied, and exciting. They provide a hands-on learning and leadership opportunity by working directly with Ministers and senior officials.

Private Secretaries are responsible for the delivery of effective and efficient executive support services to Ministers and staff in Ministers' offices. Private Secretaries play a crucial role in building and maintaining a trusting and constructive relationship between agencies and Ministers. They act as a conduit, working directly with Ministers and their staff.

Te Aka Whai Ora, along with Te Whatu Ora and Manatū Hauora, have a team of people seconded to Health Ministers' offices as Private Secretaries. They are responsible for the timely delivery of high-quality information, support and advice to Ministers and their offices. They facilitate communications and manage the day-to-day relationship between the Minister and agencies.

We are looking for a high performer to fill a full-time Private Secretary role for Te Aka Whai Ora, for up to 18 months (length of term negotiable), based in the Beehive, Wellington. You will be able to provide high quality, free and frank advice and remain calm and resilient under pressure. We are looking for aspiring leaders who are great communicators and can manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Health sector experience is ideal.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Strong health sector experience and / or central government and machinery of government expertise
- Able to manage workflow with flexibility, respond to changing and evolving priorities and ensure deadlines are met, often with short notice
- Able to react quickly to assess situations, synthesise information and demonstrate sound judgement in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and can represent the portfolio confidently and competently
- Strong commitment to "make a difference" through the provision of effective and appropriate support and advice
- Able to work autonomously and demonstrate self-motivation and stay focussed under pressure
