We are looking for an enthusiastic Soil Physics Technician to help us undertake a range of soil physical analytical tasks in the laboratory to a high standard.
The purpose of this role is to contribute to the successful operation of MWLR's Hamilton Soil Physics Laboratory by undertaking a range of soil physical analytical tasks, such as soil water retention and pore space, to a high standard. The role will assist with laboratory maintenance, field work including sampling of soil samples, along with the installation and maintenance of field equipment. This role will also contribute support to research and consultancy in soil physics.
This is a supervised role working with the Soil Physics Laboratory Manager. Training will be provided, but a genuine baseline competence in soil physics or laboratory procedure is necessary. The role has potential for career progression to Laboratory Manager.
This position is full-time and open term, reports to the Capability Leader in the Soils & Landscapes Team, and is based at our Hamilton site.
**Ō pūmanawa | About you**
You will have a tertiary qualification, trade certificate or technical qualification in either soil science, engineering, or similar, OR a degree qualification in a relevant discipline plus demonstrated experience and knowledge in soil science, soil physics, or engineering. You will have general laboratory skills, including maintenance of equipment, and a knowledge of New Zealand soils and their physical properties. Collation and reporting of data in a timely and accurate manner are essential, along with maintaining and growing client relationships. Ideally, you will be flexible, practical, and meticulous, with an eye for detail, and an ability to follow instructions.
