Te Papa Atawhai, Department of Conservation (DOC) serves to protect and sustain nature across Aotearoa. We put nature and people at the heart of our mahi, guided by te reo Māori, te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We do this by:

CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Officers are privileged to work with species and items that come from some of the most exotic and rare species from around the globe.

He kōrero mōu | What we are looking for
If you are motivated by this opportunity and if you feel you can demonstrate the following skills and capabilities, we want to hear from you:

- experience undertaking administrative tasks/case work with high attention to detail
- being organised, methodical, and flexible, with well-developed ability to plan and prioritise competing activities, tasks, and time
- resilience to manage difficult situations
- ability to work closely with a team, including with the guidance of CITES Officers
- ability to maintain confidentiality
- ability to work without direct supervision and within a dispersed team
- ability to learn complex information and processes quickly
- ability to work with people of different cultures and backgrounds
- a full New Zealand driver licence and ability and willingness to drive a DOC vehicle is essential.

A background in biological science (or relevant sub-discipline), previous experience in a regulatory or compliance environment, and/or knowledge of the border sector is advantageous.
Successful applicants must be able to gain and maintain an Aviation Security Service clearance to work at relevant border locations.

The salary range for this position is $66,535 - $83,906, with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
