AIG’s underwriters help to find insurance solutions for risks from a range of areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, Multinational Clients and High Net Worth individuals.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Financial Lines, Pacific and CEO, New Zealand, you will be responsible for the management of Liability and Financial Lines within New Zealand through the development and implementation of a business strategy, encompassing risk transfer and management, marketing, distribution, financial control, within a framework that complies with legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities include:

- Establish and control the FL & Casualty Strategic plan - to achieve revenue and expense targets.
- Identifying growth opportunities, new business segments, new product opportunities to support growth and objectives.
- Collaborate with product leadership on new business and renewal strategies for each product line within FLC and execute on those strategies.
- Establish yourself with clients, agents, brokers to be seen as a strategic thought leader in the field of Casualty and Financial Lines product offering and in so doing promote AIG as the insurance provider of choice
- Develop customer engagement and go-to market strategy for the FLC business and where necessary develop segment specific customer value proposition.
- Research and develop new products and initiatives that reflect our evolving customer needs.
- Develop and maintain solid working relationships with all major clients, agents, brokers and other stakeholders and ensure superior quality of product and service outcomes.
- Identify opportunities and develop relationships with Blue Chip companies to transact complex Multinational business.
- Drive a team culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion, exemplary conduct, employee engagement and performance excellence.
- Overall responsibility for the financial management and achievement of budget for Liability and Financial Lines profit center including profitability, productivity, direct and indirect costs, cash flow, investment, and expense management.

What we’re looking for:

- Extensive general insurance experience.
- Sound knowledge of FLC market segmentation, portfolio management, underwriting, acquisition and distribution and claims.
- Proven Strategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capability.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial underwriting across FLC.
- Strong financial statement (P&L) understanding - including deep understanding of insurance profit drivers.
- Ability to transact complex multinational business.
- Sound knowledge of reinsurance treaties.
- Proven experience or understanding of how to blend growth orientation with sound underwriting judgment.
- Background in delivering business results through initiating and leading change.
- Ability to drive change at a strategic level and provide hands-on operational execution.
- People management experience.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of, and positive profile within, the NZ insurance market an advantage.
