Auckland City, New Zealand Auckland Council Full time

Develop linkages between asset management planning and financial planning
- Be a key part of Auckland Council’s Asset Management Centre of Excellence
- Flexible and supportive work environment

**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for asset management experts.

We plan to invest nearly $300 billion in infrastructure between 2024-2054 (86% of council’s budget to 2034). When you add in non-infrastructure assets it gets even larger, and we want your expertise to help ensure ratepayers funds are used wisely and that we sustainably deliver the right services to the people of Auckland.

We have started a major journey of transformation to align with the ISO55000 series, starting with developing an asset management policy and committee. We’re now setting up an Asset Management Centre of Excellence to drive high performance across the organisation and set us on a path to being the best performing local government in Australasia.

Seven new roles have been created in the Asset Management Centre of Excellence, a manager and six principal level roles. These individuals will be expected to work collaboratively across Auckland Council to continuously improve our broader asset management system. You will provide a hub of expertise linking policy to practice.

Through consistent approaches, tools and guidance, the Asset Management Centre of Excellence will enable better long-term decision making by providing a consistent picture of our assets and the services they provide to our decision makers. Decisions can then be based on service need and sustainability across portfolios.

With a renewed focus on the importance of asset management, driven enthusiastically by our new Chief Executive and supported by the Executive Leadership Team, this is a rare opportunity to make a significant difference in one of the largest asset owning entities in New Zealand. You will get to shape a new, better asset management system for the benefit of all Aucklanders.

As Principal - Asset Financial Integration, you will develop linkages between asset management planning and financial planning (long term plans and annual budgets) so that budgets are set based on well considered balances of whole-of-life cost, risk, and levels of service and that asset-based service delivery is financially sustainable.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You are an expert in asset management with extensive experience focusing on the financial aspects of asset management.

We will value your excellent communications skills, including your ability to explain your ideas to non-technical audiences, your enthusiasm for collaborating widely, and your ability to develop a strong network of contacts across multiple organisations. The ability to translate information between asset owners and financial specialists will be essential.

You have a strong understanding of the feedback loop between long-term financial planning and asset information, and the reporting standards required for various stakeholders.

You have a passion for building a more resilient Auckland, a region that is financially sustainable today and for future generations.

With a strategic approach to problem solving, you have the natural ability to simplify big and complicated issues.

Local Government experience is an advantage but not essential.

**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer**

Auckland Council is the largest territorial authority in Australasia providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.6 million people. You’ll be joining a team of dedicated and respected experts who work collaboratively towards creating a sustainable and resilient Auckland.

In addition to our employee benefits, we work flexibly and provide opportunities for professional development.

**Applications close on Wednesday 18 September 2024**
