**_ The role/Te mahi_**

As a Research Assistant in the Department of Medicine (Christchurch Campus), you will assist with clinical research looking to better understand the role of biomarkers in the assessment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Key tasks of this role include:

- Coordinating and recruiting participants with IBD attending Christchurch Hospital Gastroenterology Department Centre into the study.
- Administering questionnaires and arranging for the collection of biological samples.
- Processing laboratory and questionnaire data into appropriate aliquots and databases.
- Contributing to the preparation of material for publication and conferences
- Liaising closely with the other recruitment site at Waikato hospital.
- Assisting with literature reviews.
- Presenting current research at meetings as required.
- Contributing to the academic environment within the University, as well as representing the University within the community.

- An ability to engage with potential participants to maximise recruitment into the cohort.
- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Laboratory science experience.
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of research methods.

Our Christchurch campus is home to over 1,000 students and is the base for medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch.
The Department of Medicine hosts some of the most productive researchers in the University. We also contribute to a number of the postgraduate programmes in the Otago Medical School, including the Master of Health Sciences papers in Gerontology.
