Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
In 2019 the Ministry of Health led a process, codesigned with consumers, to hear directly from those affected by surgical mesh. The resulting report, “Hearing and responding to the stories of survivors of surgical mesh: Ngā kōrero a ngā mōrehu - he urupare”, highlighted the severity of the harm and the impact on the lives of those who experience complications from surgical mesh.
The Surgical Mesh Health Navigator will provide advice and support to the work of the Service. This role will work in close collaboration with patients, the surgeons, the Service, and Te Whatu Ora staff to managing the waiting list from a first specialist appointment through to post operative support for patients. Importantly, the role will ensure patient-centred support for publicly funded patients that have been referred on to the waiting list for surgical mesh procedures.
