Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of the Regional Pacific Cultural Advisor role is to provide high level cultural support, advice and guidance to Oranga Tamariki practitioners(s) in the interest of achieving positive experiences and outcomes for Pacific tamaiti, ānau, and kāinga.

The Regional Pacific Cultural Advisor will work closely with Pacific communities and service providers to strengthen relationships and maximise practitioner capability. This role will work in collaboration with Oranga Tamariki practitioner(s) to enable good decision making for the safety and well-being of Pacific tamaiti and ānau by identifying key people in the wider kāinga to ensure they are involved from the earliest opportunity in the decision-making process, and where relevant, can provide care options for Pacific tamaiti.

The Regional Pacific Cultural Advisor will ensure Pacific tamaiti and ānau cultural identities are respected, needs identified, and they are connected to wider kainga; Pacific communities, and people of significance to them. Cultural capital, coupled with practice and knowledge and experience, will enable the Regional Pacific Cultural Advisor to support Oranga Tamariki practitioners and Pacific tamaiti, ānau and kāinga to navigate through Community and Statutory systems.

O ou agava'a | What you will bring
- An appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant practical experience is required
- A Social Work qualification recognised by the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB) is desired,
- A clean, current full driver's licence is essential and a willingness to drive the Ministry's vehicles.
- Sound understanding and knowledge of one or more Pacific cultures, protocols and traditions; a Pasifika culture and language.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of the aspirations and needs of Pacific peoples including evidence of involvement in Pacific peoples communities and networks
- Well established connections and relationships within the Pacific communities
- Ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences and build and maintain rapport with others.
- Highly developed organisational skills
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Strong commitment to attaining goals
- Strong problem resolution and decision-making skills
