Our Sterile Sciences Service (SSS) is a high-tech production facility responsible for the disinfection and sterilisation of equipment used directly for patient care. This department is the first unit in New Zealand to be ISO 13485 accredited and utilises advanced sterilisation technology and training methodologies combined with leading edge software to provide comprehensive support to our customers.

SSS operates 24/7 from two sites, Greenlane Clinical Centre (GCC) and Auckland City Hospital (ACH), servicing 39 operating theatres along with numerous wards, clinics and departments. We process over 7 million instruments annually, used for over 45,000 surgical procedures in different locations, every year. A diverse, multi-cultural staff plays a critical role in delivering the final quality outputs.

The Systems & Application technician is a key member of the T-Doc & Repair maintenance team based primarily at Auckland City Hospital but providing support across all sites to maintain and optimise our instrument tracking system. In addition the Systems & Application technician has a key role in managing our reusable medical devices.

In this role you will be responsible for:

- Carrying out and supporting complex data analysis, presenting information clearly and providing reports and decision support to all levels of SSS, and T-Doc users as well as the perioperative directorate team.
- Assisting in the development of a contingency system in the event of network failure or irrecoverable SSS computerised floor management system failure.
- Liaising with Finance, Procurement, HealthSource and stakeholders on capital purchases of reusable medical devices including replacement as required.

This is a permanent, full time position (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday and with overtime as required.

Our Sterile Sciences Service Team prides itself on its work ethic, values and being one of the most important roles in the hospital. Without our team the Perioperative Unit could not continue all the wonderful work they do with carrying out surgical procedures to our whanau and communities.

The Sterile Sciences Service Educator on-site will assist in your training with the team’s support to learn the role and grow a career within Sterile Services.

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**

To be successful in this role you will have entry level NCEA level 1 or High School equivalent. It is a requirement of the role to have at least Level 3/Level 4 Certificate in Sterilising Technology and it is preferable that you have at least three years’ experience working in a SSS environment.
- Be a registered Sterile Sciences Technician with NZSSA
- Or, have extensive IT experience with pathway to become registered Sterile Sciences Technician with NZSSA
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of medical terminologies & surgical instrumentation
- Be proficient in MS Applications e.g. MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, etc
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of computer hardware and relevant software
- Be able to establish positive relationships and be a good team player
