Tours Manager

The Tours Manager is responsible for the development and delivery of guided tours for the domestic and international markets. Sitting within the Visitor Services business unit, the Tours Manager's role extends on the team's primary function, to be the face of Te Papa and deliver the visitor experience. At its heart this role is responsible for the management and delivery of experiences that showcase Aotearoa and the Taonga of Te Papa.
This involves identifying opportunities to promote guided tours, liaising with stakeholders, as well as ensuring the efficient and smooth running of daily bookings, and a high level of customer service and visitor satisfaction. This is a new position and a key component of this position will be the proven ability to develop case studies and use relevant data sets to develop and drive business case models.
We are looking for a hands-on, self-starter who is an inspiring leader, enjoys working collaboratively with others, is adaptable and enthusiastic, thinks outside of the box and enjoys variety to their work.
- A strong understanding of New Zealand's international tourism markets and tourism distribution network
- Proven ability to using relevant data to drive and develop business case studies
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with external providers, clients, and the public
- High level of discretion and ability to work comfortably with a wide range of people within the community including high profile individuals, VIP's and celebrities
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with kaimahi across the museum
- Proven coordination/administrative customer-focused work experience in a similar role
- High level of written and oral communication skills
- Organised, systematic, sound planning and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise work
- Ability to think on your feet and make quick, robust decisions
- Computer literate, previous experience using a computer bookings system and an eye for detail
- Ability to communicate knowledge of New Zealand cultures, history, society, geography, flora, and fauna on a guided tour
- Three years proven experience in at least one of the following areas - tourism, communications, marketing, sales, and/or general customer service.
