**About the role**:
The Wholesale part of our business, which manages our electricity portfolio, is as fascinating as it is complex. We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to understand the Wholesale Markets business and take the lead on finance activities for actual and forecast results, including the presentation of those results to the finance team and the Wholesale Markets team.

The role provides valuable financial and commercial insights, analytics and advice, while also participating and contributing to commercial discussions aimed at improving financial performance. In addition, provide financial support to Project Manager / Sponsor by monitoring progress against budget, investigating variances, ensuring financial and analytical capability for Finance team that support the Kupe, Generation and Wholesale segments.

**Key accountabilities**:

- Act as main support for Wholesale Finance finance manager and provide support in stakeholder management.
- Key focus on interpreting and communicating Wholesale Markets financial results and reporting segment results, with focus on critical appraisal of performance. Provide insights and identify key issues for discussion with the Wholesale Commercial Finance Manager, agreeing areas for further investigation and opportunities to challenge, support and inform business managers / leaders.
- Accountable for preparation of robust, reliable Budgets, Forecasts and monthly financial performance reports. Aim to understanding of financial performance and drive automation efforts to accelerate the shift of work effort from process heavy to value add and insights. Responsible for draft numbers; seek support from Wholesale Commercial Finance Manager for judgemental matters.
- Take responsibility for month-end finance processes and requirements. Relentlessly drive and execute automation efforts to streamline and remove inefficient, manual and time-consuming processes. Take ownership of automation efforts and ensure progress is made and reported back to stakeholders. Objective is to accelerate a shift from process intensive work tasks to value-add, insights and decision support. Review responsibility for Group Financial Accounting team outputs.
- Support the embedding of process changes for the Book Structure project, providing support to accurately measure performance following these changes.
- Develop and enhance tracking of strategic initiatives across Wholesale Markets (and potentially Wholesale Operations too, including Solar) to provide transparency and updates on progress. Provide support with capital projects and other enabling activities that are key to achieving these strategic initiatives.
- Develop financial acumen and deep understanding of how the Wholesale segment operates, Genesis' portfolio and the complexity of elements that impact on the segment's financial performance. Adopt a learning and coaching style to develop own knowledge and skills, as well as the wider team.
- Perform and/or oversee valuation work to support fair value of assets in accounts and support any analysis / corporate deals with advanced financial modelling.
- Consistently provide valuable information and decision support to the Wholesale finance team to optimise financial performance.

**About you**:

- Minimum 5 years' experience in financial analysis and/or management accounting
- Worked in industry with a regulated market, trading activities and high degree of complexity - energy, financial institutions, etc.
- Demonstrable ability to think strategically and challenge business outcomes
- Highly developed analytical skills with sound problem-solving ability
- Outcome / results focused, proactive, self-starter
- Proven experience in managing stakeholder relationships and working alongside business operations to deliver tangible improvements
- Interpersonal skills and teamwork skills to collaborate with counterparts across the company
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal
- Advanced Excel skills and complex financial modelling experience
