Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Head of Communications and Engagement provides communication advice and support for transformation activities. The HCE provides thought leadership and strategic advice on internal and external customer engagement. This role acts as a senior trusted advisor to the Core Leadership Team and CIO.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Strategic comms support to leadership, particularly CIO and CoS; non-voting member of the executive leadership team and trusted advisor;
- Developing and delivering the stakeholder engagement strategy - managing and advising best practice;
- Partnering with directorate leadership teams and change management functions, to ensure business units understand the capabilities required to implement change needed to fully adopt and use the new technology solutions DDG is providing; and
- Providing expertise and advice to the Core Leadership Team and other members of DDG, including communication and engagement advice around the design and implementation of major programmes and initiatives.

Proven leadership and experience leading teams to deliver a full range of communications across a variety of channels is necessary. Having sound relationship management skills and knowledge of the communications function will be part of your success in this role.

**Additional skills**:

- Strong written and oral communication;
- Stakeholder management;
- Knowledge and experience managing customer -centric service/product portfolios;
- Ability to work with complex /technical information and present it in a way that is easy understood and engaging;
- Previous management experience in the communications field, 5 years plus in mid to high senior roles in communications, marketing PR and/or management; and
- Experience in implementing strategies that support the development of communications and engagement plans.

- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
