Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Key role within our Risk and Assurance team
- Wellington based
- Permanent role

The Risk team provides independent and objective, risk advisory services to assist Oranga Tamariki management to deliver on its strategic priorities and meet its accountabilities.

Mō mātou | About us
Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do. In our work, we aim to demonstrate these values:

- We put Tamariki first
- We believe Aroha is vital
- We respect the Mana of people
- We are Tika and Pono
- We value Whakapapa
- We recognise that Oranga is a journey

Our purpose is to ensure that all tamariki are in loving whānau and communities where oranga tamariki can be realised. We believe that by getting involved early in their lives and showing love and care, we give children the best chance of growing into happy thriving New Zealanders.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Risk and Assurance function has recently moved into the Office of the Chief Executive. The Principal Advisor Risk is a key role within the Risk and Assurance team, reports to the tier 3, Head of Risk, and has a strong linkage with the Head of Assurance and the Assurance team. This is a second line of defence role focussed on developing risk management capability across Oranga Tamariki and responsible for providing technical and high-quality advice to managers and staff on all aspects of risk management. You will lead the development, implementation and future maintenance of core frameworks and tools that set the expectations around risk management arrangements within Oranga Tamariki.

**Responsibilities**:

- Facilitate the identification, analysis, monitoring, and reporting of Oranga Tamariki risks
- Facilitate the development of Oranga Tamariki Risk Appetite statement
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Oranga Tamariki risk management practices and act as a strong advocate for organisational engagement with risk management practices
- Analyse risk information to enhance risk monitoring and risk mitigations and for reporting to senior management and the Risk Assurance Committee
- Lead the design and delivery of risk management training.

At Oranga Tamariki we want to empower our people with flexible working arrangements to be their best at both work and home, and ultimately better meet the needs of our tamariki. That is why we are embracing flexible working by default. All roles are treated as flexible unless there is a good business reason not to be and working flexibly does not undermine career progression or opportunities.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
