At Spring Hill Correctional Facility you will join a dedicated team managing the well-being and health of safety of people from remand, pre-sentencing and through to reintegration.
Based in Hampton Downs, close to Meremere, Spring Hill, is a male remand and sentenced facility and one of our newer sites. Just off the Waikato Expressway it is a 30 min drive from Pukekohe or 40 min drive from Papakura.
Utu ā-Tau | Salary and Benefits
- Starting salary $65,019, increasing as you achieve national qualifications level 3 $69,697 and Level 4 $75,213.

We provide fully paid training. Our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) involves an initial week induction at Springhill, then 5 weeks training at our National Training Centre in Wellington, then 4 weeks back at Springhill, before graduating. The learning journey will be ongoing with professional practice and development support along with a clear pathway to progression.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Corrections Officer role is about being a great role model and looking for opportunities to engage with people in a positive way. You will have the ability to not only change the lives of whaanau but also influence change through your interactions.
You will be working in a challenging environment where you will be supported by a team of experienced colleagues. As part of your training you will learn how to keep yourself safe within a custodial environment.
**Corrections Officer, He Āpiha Whare Herehere will**:
- ĀRAHI - supervise daily routines
- MANAAKI - respond to questions and helping to resolve problems, help people engage in their rehabilitation programme and attend appointments or tangihanga.
- WHAKAKIPAKIPA - motivate and inspire people to make positive changes
- HĀPAI - monitor and manage health, safety and behaviours.
- MAHITAHI - work closely with whānau and other key stakeholders
- MAHI - be able to work rostered 10 or12 hour rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidays

Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:
- Current and full New Zealand driver licence or Restricted Licence with the ability to sit your full licence within the next 6 months.
- Legally able to work fulltime in New Zealand (work visa must have a remaining period of minimum 12 months)
**Pre-employment checks include**: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.
The recruitment process for Corrections Officers is via an assessment centre which will be held at a Spring Hill Corrections. We have three assessment centres scheduled (you only attend one of these), they run from 8.30am to approx 4pm on either 16th November, 23rd November or 30th November. At the assessment centre you will meet Corrections staff, learn more about the role and complete a group exercise, role play, interview and written assessment, have lunch and then complete a two hour scope (experience the environment and work) within the prison. You will be well supported during this process.
