About the role
The Policy Specialist will support the maintenance of up-to-date knowledge of short-term and long-term trends and issues (both in New Zealand and globally) for retired people, and those approaching retirement, to inform retirement policy development.
The Policy Specialist will provide advice on pension policy, including NZ Superannuation and KiwiSaver, and support the Director, Policy and the Retirement Commissioner in their policy and advocacy work.
The Policy Specialist will maintain strong working relationships with relevant government agencies to keep older people (including those in paid work) in mind when developing policy.

**What you'll bring to the role**:
We are seeking applicants with the following key skills and experience:

- Degree qualified in a suitable discipline
- Empathy with a wide range of New Zealanders, particularly older people
- Strong knowledge of policy analysis and development
- At least three years' experience in a government role preferred
- Highly articulate, with advanced written (including extensive report writing) and oral communication skills
- Experience in government compliance and good understanding of the workings of central government and its policy functions
- A demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to varied audiences
- Proactive and collaborative approach to managing internal and external relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and demonstrates composure under pressure
- Has begun to develop a network of key sector stakeholders
