**Āu Mahi | What You Will Do**
We seek an individual who will provide outstanding teaching and research in the field of geodynamics and active tectonics at the University of Canterbury. We are looking for an exceptional research scientist who is committed to producing outstanding graduates and to working closely with the structural geology, active tectonics, earthquakes and hazards teams at UC. We seek a person with a specialisation in crustal-scale deformational processes using geophysical (e.g., passive and active seismic, InSAR, lidar and/or GNSS) and geological (e.g., geomorphology and structure) datasets.
You will be expected to develop an externally-funded research programme and research linkages with Māori (Indigenous Peoples of Aotearoa New Zealand) iwi (tribes) and hapū (subtribes), crown research institutes (e.g., GNS Science and NIWA), industry and/or community groups.

Applicants should have a PhD, an ability and willingness to deliver high quality teaching in geodynamics, tectonics and hazards at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and a commitment to world-class research in an area complementary to current strengths within our School.
You will demonstrate potential for academic excellence in teaching and research, be able to conduct innovative and effective lectures, laboratories and field classes from first year through to postgraduate level, publish research at a high level as assessed by peer-reviewed publications and engage with stakeholders. We are looking for an adaptable and collaborative colleague who can work with others to embrace opportunities that contribute to our core mission. Applicants should have the ability to teach geological field studies and quantitative modelling at undergraduate level.
- PhD in geology or geophysics and post-doctoral research experience.
- Record of strong, collegial engagement with colleagues.
- Record of research productivity.
- Desire and ability to generate external research income.
- Skills to contribute to, and develop, innovative research programmes in geodynamics and tectonics.
- Demonstrated ability, or clear potential, to be an excellent university-level teacher. Field teaching skills and experience desirable.
- Ability to encourage, facilitate and supervise the research of postgraduate students.
- Demonstrate an understanding of, and/or willingness to, learn about bicultural and multicultural aspects in Aotearoa New Zealand Society, including a commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi The Treaty of Waitangi, and display a willingness to engage professionally with diversity.
- Demonstrate skills to discharge administration capabilities within a university setting.
