**What will you be doing?**

We are recruiting for our** Head of Underwriting **to join our Underwriting senior leadership team**.**

Reporting directly to our Chief Underwriting Officer, this leadership role will facilitate superior business outcome by providing strategic leadership to the Underwriting function.

This role will be accountable for the success of the Underwriting team by maintaining, developing and enhancing underwriting governance for Tower and third parties including underwriting agencies; for NZ and Pacific. To ensure we can deliver on our strategy and performance objectives, you will instill a leader led culture for continuously lifting our capability, optimising underwriting standards, frameworks, and processes.

You can expect to be involved across a variety of areas including:

- Create and implement Underwriting strategies that lead to the success and profitability of Tower products.
- Maintain and enhance the profitability of Tower product range through clarifying underwriting business rules, resolving product issues, and decision making on data from customer and portfolio measures
- Maintaining compliant processes for underwriting of all Tower products to drive customer acquisition and retention in line with risk appetite.
- Developing and monitoring appropriate frameworks for underwriting governance; underwriting delegations, discounts
- Ensuring customer discounting is maintained and remediated where required.
- Continually enhancing portfolio efficiency reducing business complexity by enhancing underwriting guidelines and processes with automation wherever possible
- Monitoring performance of Underwriting Agencies and supporting Product and Pricing teams to implement changes.
- Ensure underwiring manuals and delegations are monitored and updated for new and existing underwriting strategies.

**What you'll need**

You will have exceptional leadership capability to inspire and lead a high achieving team to deliver results. A proven track record of agile thinking, challenging the status quo, and creating and delivering innovative solutions is also key. You will have the ability to engage, collaborate with and influence people from all over the business.

**To be successful in this role, you will also be able to demonstrate the following**:

- Strong underwriting and governance skills and disciplines
- Sound knowledge of the New Zealand financial services / insurance industry
- 10+ years in the insurance industry and 5+ years in a senior underwriting role
- Exceptional leadership skills and experience with the ability to motivate and engage teams
- Strong risk management disciplines
