***Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers. We also provide contracting services to our partners - other network owners and operators across the North Island servicing the needs of clients in transmission, distribution, generation, and commercial sectors.
We pride ourselves on our excellence and innovation, providing commercially viable solutions for electrical and telecommunication design, construction, and maintenance requirements.
Northpower Fibre operates the ultra-fast broadband fibre network in Whangarei, completed in 2014 and bringing fibre to about 24,000 customers. We further expanded our UFB networks to additional 12 towns in Kaipara and Whangarei districts, providing fibre to a further 10,000 customers in Northland. We continue to grow, opening new opportunities.
We have over 1,300 staff working together across 14 locations in North Island.
***The Role**
We’re looking for a talented and motivated Software Engineer to join our dynamic Fibre Platforms team. Reporting to the Software Engineering Lead
- Fibre Platforms, you will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our team to understand business requirements and drive innovation through software.
Based in Whangarei, you will also be responsible for:
- Building and maintaining highly automated solutions, robust and scalable systems for the evolving network challenges in the future
- Continuously improving existing systems and processes, network performance and user experiences.
- Providing technical assistance to support triaging and troubleshooting in the incident handling process within Fibre Network.
- Awareness of cyber security issues and report weaknesses
- Being a change advocate for process automation and create active and passive monitoring mechanisms for resource and service performance management.
- Demonstrate a customer-centric approach, focusing on delivering and working with software that meets or exceeds expectations

You will have a minimum of four years’ proven experience in the software development industry. Your “can do” attitude, mindset, and flair for initiative will carry weight for success. We’re looking for an individual who can demonstrate the following:
Ability to lead small projects and self-manage time and workload including working with external stakeholders will be required
- Software engineering qualifications and experience in the telecommunications, fibre and electricity networks would be highly desirable.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to adapt quickly to technological advancements.
- Experience in programming languages such as JavaScript, Node.js and PHP.
- Proven scripting experience using PowerShell, Ruby, python, shell, or other common scripting languages.
- Familiarity with databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or InFluxDB.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Enthusiasm for learning and a passion for automation and logical problem-solving.
- Ability to remain calm under the pressure of high-priority issue resolution scenarios.
