MBIE's Evidence and Insights unit develops the evidence base for MBIE's decision making. We provide trusted information on the impact and effectiveness of government initiatives and data, analysis, and insights that help decision-makers do their best work. We support and influence the policy debate and provide direct advice to Government and information to stakeholders and the public. With over 80 staff, we have a broad range of expertise and offer excellent opportunities for development.

**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
This role helps deliver a robust and compelling suite of evidence that informs key policy decisions and consultations for the energy sector. The role will help to build the evidence base for the transition to a low-emissions future through regular statistical reporting, modelling, and data analysis, and creating insights that inform MBIE policy areas.

You will develop and use analytical, applied statistics, communication, and reporting skills to deliver greater value from MBIE data and information. You will use your analytical capability and insight to show how the energy sector is changing and informing climate change work and contribute to international reporting of energy and climate statistics.

You will be engaging with stakeholders across the energy sector to ensure we're measuring and reflecting changes to how energy is generated and used in New Zealand. You will help make sure our data is accessible and well communicated in high quality products and deliver compelling data visualizations.

A background in economics, statistics, or data science is highly desirable, as is experience with a statistical language. Experience in the R statistical language is beneficial.

About The Team
The role reports to the Manager of the Markets team within the Evidence and Insights unit. The Markets team is responsible for data and analytics, and evaluation and monitoring of several of MBIE’s regulatory systems. Energy is the primary focus of the team’s work, but we also have work in the resource markets and consumer, commercial, competition, communications, and financial markets. We work closely with policy and regulatory delivery areas of MBIE, with a focus on strategic work.
