Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

The secret to our success is our people. While we are ordinary people, we are not all the same. We welcome diversity, in all its forms, in fact we consider it a strength. Join us and work at the heart of national security to protect New Zealand and New Zealanders.
We are seeking a Technical Leader for the Cryptanalysis Research Team, a role that can be based in Wellington or Auckland. The team focuses on niche topics of relevance to the New Zealand Intelligence Community in support of the long-term interests of the New Zealand Government.
We are primarily responsible for the design and implementation of sensitive cryptanalytic techniques, and we conduct research that enables us to reveal intelligence to enhance the security and well-being of all New Zealanders.
Engagement with our domestic and international partners is an important component of this role, with opportunities for short and longer-term international travel and training.

**To be successful in this role you will**:

- Be an effective frontline people leader with a PhD in mathematics or computer science, or a related field with a strong mathematical focus
- Have demonstrable experience leading mathematical research projects and software development projects
- Thrive in an environment where discovery is an important part of the role
- Identify innovative and unique opportunities to support the intelligence mission
- Enjoy technically challenging work in a collaborative and creative environment

We are looking for someone with a passion for mathematics, computer science and proven research results in those areas. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technically complex material to a wide range of audiences.
In return, we can offer you a challenging, research-focused role in a small, smart and innovative team, where you can use your skills and knowledge to make a real difference for New Zealand.
To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
