Our purpose is to put our energy where it matters, to decarbonise the New Zealand energy sector and promote #changematters. We are passionate about our mission and proud to have a tribe of people behind us working towards a common purpose. With such an ambitious goal, you might ask yourself - how does this opportunity help support a better, cleaner NZ?

To support these aspirations, we are excited to be one of few energy companies in the world embarking on several new geothermal projects. Tauhara Geothermal Station will be a 168 MW geothermal plant and will incorporate the world’s largest geothermal steam turbine plant. It is well on its way in terms of development. Other projects include ensuring ongoing generation from the Wairakei Geothermal Field and further investments on the Tauhara field, including the Te Huka Power Station Project (51.4MW Binary Plant).

**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role**

Health and Safety...the two words everybody dreads to hear at the daily toolbox meeting. That was until you came along of course With your out of the box thinking you’ll create something authentic the team can get behind, not some fancy powerpoint presentation.

As you may have guessed by now, this isn’t your standard Health and Safety checklist kind of role. You’re going to be on the ground with the team, understanding the challenges they face as they do the mahi building the next lot of renewable generation that will power Aotearoa

You will play a key role in leading and promoting Contact’s commitment to providing a professional health and safety environment with wellbeing at the forefront.

You will be a true advocate for implementing world class safety systems and ensuring our people have the processes, tools and training they need to get home safely to their Whanau each day.

Given the breadth of this role, there will plenty of areas you can sink your teeth into. Project work will cover all facets of power station construction from site mobilisation to bulk earthworks, civil works, onsite construction and mechanical scope, electrical, C&I etc. You will see the projects right the way through to successful commissioning.

Some of the day to day you’ll be involved in:

- Proactively liaise with and maintain a positive relationship and interface with the Tauhara/Te Huka Project Manager and HSW Manager. This is pivotal to your success.
- Identify hazards and risks appropriate to the current scope of work and ensure controls are effective and relevant.
- Review contractor plans, understand what leads to successful constructability outcomes and be prepared to ask probing questions.

**Qualifications**:
**Ko wai koe | About you**

First and foremost, you need to be a people person. You are going to connect with a lot of humans - employees, contractors and subcontractors right across the business, so building relationships and trust is key

You lead by example - you have a hands-on approach and are not afraid to get your PPE gear on and “muck in” onsite or have a korero in the cafeteria. You have a natural flair for joining the dots, teaching people to find what they need, and to empower others to do the same.

You have a knack for understanding the challenges our people face and will coach them to recognise change and adapt safely to the conflicts and trade-offs that are needed to complete work in a complex environment.

You may also come armed with a few specific skills:

- Large scale, extensive HSW construction management experience in a complex environment, preferably in the power generation and ideally geothermal sector.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including strengths in influencing, conflict management and negotiation.
- Renowned communicator with the ability to clearly convey complex information to a variety of audiences both verbally and written.
- Curiosity, and comfort in working with ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Ability to prepare reports and present safety solutions to senior management.

Experience working in heavy construction/project/oil and gas would be a bonus.
