**Mō mātou | About Us**
At Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury, we are committed to Tiakitanga to make Aotearoa a better place for people today and in the future. We safeguard New Zealand's finances and are the Government's trusted economic advisor. Our vision is to lift living standards for New Zealanders.
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role**
We are looking for an analyst to work on some of the biggest social policy challenges facing Aotearoa - New Zealand. This is a job that makes a real difference to people's lives, especially when they are most in need of support, and would require you to get your head around complex social and fiscal policy issues.
The** Welfare & Oranga Tamariki team **supports three agencies: the Ministry of Social Development, Oranga Tamariki, and Whaikaha (the new Ministry of Disabled People). We provide advice on agency performance and spending in these areas, focusing on:
- income support (such as NZ Super and main benefits) and child poverty,
- the delivery of programmes in partnership with iwi and community organisations,
- significant agency transformation programmes, and
- managing the financial impacts of social policy decisions, especially through the Budget process.
You will be responsible for engaging with one or more of the agencies we work with, as well as developing insights into the effectiveness of Government spending. You will have extensive opportunities to learn about and contribute to public finance processes - for example, you will likely have a role in assessing Budget bids and advising on Ministerial priorities.
Depending on your skillset and experience, you will have the opportunity to lead or support one or more workstreams. Your analysis and advice will be considered at the highest levels, and can make a difference to the wellbeing of New Zealanders.
**Ō pūmanawa | About You**
Our ideal team member will have an interest in social policy, together with:
- At least 2 years policy experience (preferably in a government agency),
- Experience in working collaboratively to influence and develop policy solutions,
- Some familiarity with financial information and/or data analysis as part of policy development.
You should be:
- A critical thinker who is able to ask good questions, think through issues with analytical rigour, and who can see things from a range of perspectives,
- An excellent communicator with a track record on writing for a range of audiences,
- Comfortable working at pace and dealing with ambiguity.
**Ko ngā hua | What we Offer**
- The opportunity to influence policy at the highest levels, which can make a difference to the wellbeing of New Zealanders
- An energetic and collaborative work environment in a high-performing team where you will interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (including Ministers, Ministerial offices, and senior leaders at government agencies)
- A commitment to providing work and training opportunities that support your development and career aspirations.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and foster a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential. The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and encourages a positive work life balance, including flexible working arrangements.
