Our Oncology and Palliative Care department is located in Christchurch Hospital, this department specialises in seeing and treating patients diagnosed and being treated for Cancer. This is a primarily outpatient focused service seeing approximately 57,000 patients in our outpatient service each year.
As a Transcriptionist, you will be working in this fast-paced environment. You will play a key role in our service, helping to achieve the best outcomes for our tūroro (patients) and whanaū while working within a great kapa (team).
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Christchurch Hospital.
As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 3 /Profile 3B.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
This role will see you providing quality secretarial support to a busy but very friendly department. Your role will predominantly involve:
- Transcribing clinical dictation
- Coordinating appointments with our clinicians and tūroro (patients)
- Collating information and ensuring completeness of the record
- Providing excellent customer service
Your skills will include:
**Essential**:
- Excellent customer service skills - people focused
- Excellent keyboard skills (typing speed of 50-70 wpm)
- Commitment and ability to achieve accuracy and maintain attention to detail
- Excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work unsupervised
- A team player
- Intermediate user in the Microsoft suite of products e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
**Desired**:
- Broad administrative experience in a health-related field
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with the public hospital system (including the patient management system)
- Awareness of people of differing cultural backgrounds.
