The General Manager Democracy and Engagement has an exciting opportunity for a Governance Support Manager to join the team on a permanent basis.

This is a pivotal People Leader role responsible for leading a team that supports the democratic functions of the governing body and related political activities. The Governance Support Manager identifies opportunities to improve processes and services to elected members, the wider council family and the public.

A key part of the role is to build awareness of council’s democratic processes and obligations.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

This role would suit a highly motivated professional with management experience. You are committed to leading a cross functional team to manage the political interface between the Councillors, Local Board Members, Independent Māori Statutory Board, Advisory Panels and Council Controlled Organisations. This includes international relations with other cities in other countries.

You will have very strong interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills as well as strong personal resilience. You are able to sustain a high level of energy and positivity during times when you the organisation or the department is under extreme pressure. This role also enables and supports team members to grow and reach their potential within the work environment.

Strong experience with local government legislations, political support and management would also be beneficial.

As a member of the Democracy and Engagement department Lead Team, this role will work collaboratively with other managers to enhance the well-being of kaimahi as well as the culture and direction of the department going forward.
