At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.

**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**
The Principal Evaluator position is based in Wellington CBD and reports to the Manager, Evaluation & Research. You will provide technical and strategic leadership conducting and coordinating research and evaluation activities to advance the Ministry's educational Policy development, planning and evaluation, i.e., undertaking and commissioning strategic and operational research, evaluations and other core services per Ministry priorities.
The salary band for this role is $110,923 - $135,573 depending on skills and experience.

**Mōhou ake | About you**
We are looking for and experienced and capable Principal Evaluator.
You will also have:
- Tertiary qualification in research, social science, economics, public policy or related discipline
- Post-graduate qualification in evaluation or relevant discipline preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including negotiation and facilitation skills and experience communicating technical information to a non-technical audience
- An affinity for working collaboratively with internal customers and other stakeholders to determine needs, obtain information, develop approaches, and communicate results
- A proven track record in the delivery of complex evaluation
- An acute eye for detail, taking pride in the accuracy of your work and offering robust and constructive peer review to colleagues and sound mentoring skills.
**Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team**
Te Pae Aronui provides integrated operational support to our regions for their work with the education sector and others to deliver inclusive education that meets the needs of ākonga and whanau.
The Evidence, Data and Knowledge Group provides high quality evidence to inform policy and practice. We do this to influence the policies, actions and decisions that help shape the education system and drive excellent and equitable outcomes. We pride ourselves in providing data and analysis that makes information relevant, understandable, and useful for parents, teachers, academics and government.
The Evaluation and Research team undertakes evaluation of key policies, programmes and initiatives in the education system and provides an expert evaluation advisory service to other parts of the Ministry that wish to undertake or procure evaluations or to build evaluative thinking into policy and service design. The team also plays an important role in collaborating with the education research and evaluation community to expand collective understanding of education system performance and best practice.
