**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
The Small Business, Commerce and Consumer Policy branch is the Government’s lead advisor on the commercial environment in which all New Zealand businesses and consumers operate. We look after the laws and institutions that underpin how businesses and consumers interact with each other.

The Financial Markets team provides advice to Ministers to promote fair, efficient and transparent financial markets in New Zealand. Our vision is that all New Zealand consumers and businesses have access to the money they need to thrive. Our role includes advising on the regulation of financial services like banks and insurers, insurance contract law, KiwiSaver and other funds management, and wider investment settings and how to grow our capital markets. In an environment where the cost of living is increasing, and New Zealand also faces a range of long-term challenges, financial products and services are critical to help businesses and individuals save and invest for the future, manage their risks, and grow our collective wellbeing.

The Financial Markets team is seeking a capable Policy Advisor to help shape financial markets regulation and deliver on the Government of the day’s priorities. There is a range of work currently on in the team, which you may be able to contribute to, including reforming our insurance contract law, considering our capital markets framework and consider the market settings for the Emissions Trading Scheme.

We are looking for a motivated thinker with experience in solving tricky policy problems and formulating high-quality policy and regulatory advice for a range of issues and projects.

**For the role, ideally you will**:

- Have a good base of experience and knowledge in public policy as a Policy Advisor or transferrable skills from an advisory, regulatory, legal or similar role.
- Be a great writer and communicator who can simply explain complex topics.
- Be a logical thinker, problem solver, and have a healthy level of curiosity.
- Have the ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results.
- Enjoy working on tricky problems, generating ideas and coming up with solutions.
- Have or want to improve your cultural capability and knowledge of te ao Māori, te reo Māori and how Te Tiriti o Waitangi informs our work.
- Have the ability to build relationships with others and work collaboratively.
- Have the ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results.
