**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We are seeking an Associate Director Learning and Teaching to lead our Learning and Teaching Design Team and support our Director of Learning and Teaching in the development and implementation of learning and teaching strategies for the University. You will do this by leading the operations of our service oriented teams as we look to enhance our offering by implementing process improvement and long term change projects.

As the Associate Director Learning and Teaching, you will lead a division tasked with delivering the future learning and teaching design needs of the University within the framework of our vision 2030 and strategic plan Taumata Teitei. You will ensure that the University’s learning and teaching design needs are well understood across our faculties and service divisions and that the Learning and Teaching Design Team have the capabilities and capacity to deliver on our agreed priorities.

The University will be implementing a curriculum transformation over the next 2-3 years, so you’ll ensure that your teams are well placed to support this transformation, by partnering with other parts of the University to offer the required range of training, capability development, and specialist support.

This is a senior leadership role that will require you to work collaboratively across the University and the wider education portfolios whilst developing and managing a team of people leaders with large and complex service oriented teams.

**You will be responsible for**:

- Stakeholder & Relationship Management including the communication of the centre’s vision and purpose across the University and the establishment of priorities through collaboration with senior staff.
- Functional leadership including the development of a strong cohesive team to enable the development of pedagogically sound and research-informed courses and programmes.
- Provide thought leadership and direction as required.
- Managing long term change processes within the Division.
- Reviewing and prioritising a volume of complex projects split across your portfolio.
- Continuous improvement, including the establishment of expectations and performance measures for the Learning Design Service.

Ranga Auaha Ako | Learning & Teaching Design Team is an important part of the University’s strategy to partner with teaching staff across faculties to enable well-designed curricula, which supports the achievement of the University’s Graduate Profile and is commensurate with programmes delivered in a research-intensive, civic university of international standing.

The objective of Ranga Auaha Ako is to provide effective and scalable learning design expertise, that can be flexibly deployed across the University to implement strategic curriculum initiatives that enhance the learning experience for as many of our students as possible.

**Essential Experience**:

- PhD or Master’s degree in a learning and teaching-related field and demonstrable experience in implementing positive change in teaching programmes.
- Setting and delivering strategic priorities and projects.
- Working with staff in a university to develop and deliver courses.
- Leading and developing high performing teams in complex, changing environments.
- A demonstrable drive to enhance teaching methods by leveraging best practices and modern technology in scientifically backed ways.
- The delivery of projects in politically charged environments.

**Skills and Knowledge**:

- Knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning practices in Higher Education.
- Demonstrable experience in completing projects by acting as a project manager or key contributor/change maker.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills with the confidence to present in a broad group of settings.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academics from a range of disciplines.
