**Our vision**: Nature is thriving in Aotearoa | Te Oranga o te Ao Tūroa
The Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature spaces and species across Aotearoa.
Tangata whenua are inextricably linked to the whenua and te taiao, and we desire a future where whānau, hapū and iwi can thrive in their role as rangatira and kaitiaki.
Tō tātou taiāo. Tō tātou hītori. He tāonga tūturu nō Aotearoa. Maioha rawatia. Poipoia rawatia. Tukua.
Our nature. Our history. It's New Zealand's unique legacy. Enjoy it. Enrich it. Pass it on.
DOC is accountable for managing more than 1700 Contaminated Sites across the country. These sites are all listed as HAIL (Hazardous Activities and Industries List) sites and are contaminated because of various historical industrial land uses including resource mining, agriculture, horticulture, landfill and fuel storage. Often these land assets have been vested to DOC and may become a liability and a risk to staff, the general public and the surrounding environment from subsequent leaching of waste or contamination by-products.
He angitūtanga | About the role

You will set and maintain the technical standards for our project managers, consultants and contractors to adhere to, as well as being responsible for maintaining our databases of contaminated sites information and liaising with regulatory authorities.
