**Available Role**: Māori Community Representative
RANZCOG (the College) is seeking to appoint a Māori Community Representative to contribute to the mahi of the College. He Hono Wāhine is the RANZCOG’s committee to provide a Māori voice to advise Te Kāhui Oranga ō Nuku, the New Zealand Training and Accreditation Committee, the Women’s Health Committee, and the Board and Council on matters relating to the health and welfare of wāhine Māori. He Hono Wāhine also advocate within Aotearoa New Zealand for health equity and the health needs of wāhine Māori, pēpi, whānau, hapū and iwi.
RANZCOG is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to high standards of practice in obstetrics and gynaecology. As well as training specialist doctors, RANZCOG supports research into women’s health, and acts as an advocate for women’s healthcare by forging productive relationships with governing bodies, the community, and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.
About the College

**About the role**:
RANZCOG engages Community Representatives on a number of its committees. Community representatives help the RANZCOG improve programs, processes, and decision making by contributing their vast knowledge and experiences. Links to the community support RANZCOG to understand the needs of consumers and community members. He Hono Wāhine’s community representative has a particular opportunity to help improve health outcomes for wahine Māori.
He Hono Wāhine is a network of Māori Fellows, trainees, external researchers, kaumatua, and Ngā Maia representation. As well as guiding RANZCOG Te Rautaki Māori me te Ara Whakamua, this rōpū is a support network for members in their professional, and personal mahi. He Hono Wāhine connect and come together with a passion for supporting their communities and achieving health equity for Wāhine Māori.
All community representatives are paid a sitting fee based on RANZCOG’s policy. This is currently $888 a day for agreed meeting time and includes preparation time.
**Skills and Experiences**:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of te ao and tikanga Māori.
- Strong understanding in te reo Māori.
- Effectively able to engage with Māori and non-Māori to advance outcomes for Māori.
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in health.
- An interest in, and commitment to, women's health and improving health outcomes for Māori.
- A positive, friendly, and flexible attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and to collaborate.
- Policy experience and experience working in a government or advocacy context.
- Communication skills to mentor and coaching colleagues to support the development of cultural capability in te ao Māori.
