New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. We work in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses, and other public sector agencies to achieve our vision of Safer Communities Together.

Following a recent realignment of the Police Commissioner’s executive structure, New Zealand Police have welcomed a new CFO to lead an enhanced Finance function. There are a number of Finance vacancies that the organisation has been holding during a period of change, but now the Police Executive have given the mandate and their support to drive the Finance team and their strategy forward.

The CFO and realigned Finance Leadership team now have a re-energized collective focus and have assessed the current state of the group to determine their initial priorities, in line with the organisations and new governments, and which roles are key to delivering these.

This role
**Senior Finance Business Partner **is within a select group of critical roles necessary to help ensure Police remain fiscally sustainable, have access to high quality financial information and strategic advice, and have the financial literacy to allocate and use the limited public resources provided to Police wisely.

The
** Senior Finance Business Partner** will be responsible for the provision of trusted, robust, insightful, and comprehensive financial advice to support New Zealand Police Leadership deliver on its strategic priorities. Your advice will go beyond the numbers, both informing and influencing to ensure sound financial decision making within a fast paced, diverse and challenging environment. This role will require high levels of flexibility, resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to work with a range of senior Police stakeholders.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate data from information to insights, to our customers in a meaningful way are essential requirements.

The Finance function of any organisation provides several critical services required to enable the success of that organisation. This ranges from ensuring our staff and suppliers are paid, ensuring compliance with public sector legislation, standards, and expectations, maintaining a “Licence to operate” and providing strategic and practical financial advice to decision makers to ensure we operate within our budgets and deliver value for money.

Key Accountabilities:

- Act as a key business partner and coach to the Executive and their leadership teams throughout the portfolio as required, helping to ensure the success of any business initiatives and alignment with Police’s organisational goals.
- Understand the NZP and portfolio’s key business drivers, cost drivers, pressures and risks using this knowledge to provide proactive, relevant, and integrated business and financial advice to business units, while retaining a NZP perspective as necessary.
- Deliver timely, accurate and forward-looking financial information and business support to ensure effective financial management, oversight, decision-making and risk management.
- Provide sound strategic analysis and options, informing, and influencing decision making and presenting analysis to assess, support or challenge key decisions.
- Participate in portfolio strategic planning as a trusted advisor to portfolio leadership teams.
