Team Manager - Litigation Team
- Full time, permanent position
- Location: National Office, Wellington
We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to join our busy and collaborative legal management team. This role reports directly to the Deputy Chief Legal Advisor.
What will you do?
This is a challenging and rewarding role and you will lead and manage teams/pools of legal staff to deliver Legal Services to the Ministry. You will work collegially with other Team Managers, Deputy Chief Legal Advisors and the Legal Operations Manager, to deliver effective and efficient legal services, and assist in providing strategic leadership across MSD Legal.
The team currently has seven staff in three locations. The Litigation team advises on the Ministry's response to Historic abuse litigation, social security litigation, privacy litigation, human rights complaints and litigation, Inquiries and complex social security issues. The role does not involve Court advocacy as Crown Law is instructed.
About you
You will be a qualified barrister and solicitor with a current practising certificate.
To be successful in this role, you will have significant experience providing leadership of a legal or other professional team at a senior level, with the ability to contribute as a member of a senior management team.
You will have a sound knowledge (or proven ability to quickly obtain) of Public Law, Welfare, Privacy and Official Information laws as well as other areas of law relevant to the Ministry's business and an ability to mentor people in these along with providing legal advice at a senior level within a large and complex organisation. You will also have a strategic focus with strong analytical skills and an awareness and understanding of Treaty obligations and Partnership issues:
