We seek to engage a highly skilled internal auditor who has the experience and innovative mindset to help us deliver an integrated, internal audit assurance risk function within DOC.
The Conservation Assurance Team (Public Affairs Group) works across the organisation in conjunction with DOC Leaders to provide independent, objective advice and information that gives DOC confidence in the way we work and operate. This is achieved through the Unit's Internal Audit work programme, and leadership, for embedding the Department's approach to risk management. The team is a primary point of co-ordination and assessment across DOC's internal audit programme, risk, and inquiries.
A key feature of the unit's work is to uphold the value of public sector integrity, and this is reflected in the custodianship of internal policies for, Fraud, Risk Leadership, Conflict of Interest, Gifts and Hospitality and Protected Disclosures.

He angitūtanga | About the role
This is a unique role, that takes a strategic, enterprise-view across multi-disciplined, technically diverse, and highly specialised functions that deliver conservation outcomes for Aotearoa, New Zealand.
The position will see you directly support the Chief Assurance Officer to drive the internal audit programme and lead work across the business to embed the Internal Auditors professionally recognised Three lines assurance model across the Department.
You will be working in a highly capable team who have a sense of fun while being fully professional. Team dynamics are an essential ingredient for the success of the unit.

**Key deliverables include**:

- Provide expert advice and guidance to Department of Conservation Directors and Managers to ensure systems and processes are well designed and the controls operating as intended
- Support the Chief Assurance Officer by providing the Risk and Assurance Committee with the appropriate periodic Audit Plan and framework updates
- Support the Chief Assurance Officer to drive the implementation of the internal audit strategy
- Conduct inquiries as required while conforming to IIA standards.
- Operate closely with the Manager Risk and Resilience to achieve integrated assurance advice at senior levels within the Department.

The role requires an experienced risk and assurance professional with experience gained in either the commercial or public sector environment. You will have a keen risk radar and be comfortable operating in complex environments. You will be a member of the wider Public Sector Assurance Forum.

**To be considered for the role you will have**:

- A relevant graduate degree in accountancy, business information systems or finance
- Detailed knowledge of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Professional Practices Framework and associated standards
- Experience in developing, implementing assurance and risk frameworks and methodologies
- Experience in providing advice and expertise to independent Risk and Assurance Committee and senior management
- Understanding of tikanga and Treaty of Waitangi principles
- Well
- developed understanding of systems thinking
- Able to think strategically and see linkages between different streams of work
- Relevant professional memberships such as the Institute of Internal Auditors
- Experience in Central Government systems, processes, and protocols
- Able to coach and develop others
- Current full driving licence required.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Contract management
- Ability to think at a systems-wide level.
