He angitūtanga | About the role
How would you like to be part of a team engaging local communities to protect at-risk species and ecosystems from mountains to sea?
As Community Liaison Officer (Ranger Community) you will join the Regional Operations team to work alongside our Treaty partners and communities to achieve great outcomes for conservation. You will be a connector - great at relationships and facilitation, able to coordinate multiple groups and interests to achieve the best possible outcomes at place.
The role is largely office-based, working across the Manawatū from the Palmerston North office.

**The position will be focussed on**:

- supporting whānau, hapū and iwi in their role as kaitiaki of te taiao 
- building and maintaining strong relationships
- supporting and facilitating delivery of collaborative conservation initiatives
- sharing knowledge and inspiring others
- telling stories of our work and the difference we are making.

We need an individual who is a proven team player, well-organised and great at relationships, communication, facilitation and problem solving. You will be diligent and resilient, able to tackle a variety of work.

- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Experience planning and executing medium complexity projects .
- Critical thinking and analytical skills, able to identify and implement innovative solutions.
- Full New Zealand driver licence.

Desirable
- Comfortable working with whānau, hapū and iwi and a good understanding of te ao Māori me ngā tikanga.
- Experience telling stories for traditional and social media.
- Interest in conservation.

The Manawatu team is close-knit; we respect and look out for one another, and are passionate about the mahi we do. The district spans coastal dunes and lakes, lowland coastal forest remnants and alpine tussock tops. Our taonga include three nationally threatened plants, Powelliphanta snails and prized local populations of whio, kiwi & pekapeka. Key sites include the Manawatu Estuary (RAMSAR), Te Apiti Manawatu Gorge, Ruahine Forest Park and Lake Waiwiri.
The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic and community engagement teams.
