As Sustainability Advisor (Fixed term) you will play a key role in supporting this vision by helping to embed sustainability within our organisation at a strategic, cultural, and organisational level. This role will see you working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure our actions are in line with the expectations of stakeholders across environmental, social, economic, and cultural dimensions.

This is a fixed term role for 10 months, covering one of our team who is on extended leave. As part of the Sustainability team, and working closely with our Corporate Affairs team, you will be responsible for assisting in embedding a robust sustainability programme within Contact. You will be part of a team that are focused on values such as kaitiakitanga, whanaungatanga and manaaki. These values guide the decisions we make and the impact they have on the natural resources and communities that we impact.

This role comes with many different facets and opportunities, so we promise that no two days will be the same. You will have the opportunity to flex your expertise in your craft while learning lots of new things we are working on to strengthen our place in the Energy sector. In particular you will have a focus across:

- Support the business to maintain a robust understanding of environmental, social, cultural, and economic factors that impact on Contact’s ability to sustainably operate now and in the future.
- Support the development of appropriate management processes, policies, measurement tools that help Contact to appropriately manage and deliver on its sustainability objectives.
- Influence and challenge our teams to act on and sustain the cultural change needed to implement our sustainability and social responsibility strategy across all our sites.
- Identify, co-ordinate, project manage and deliver initiatives and key programmes identified as part of our sustainability strategy such as sustainable procurement, materiality review, annual report, and climate risk management projects.
- Support with communication of our sustainability story and projects internally and externally.
- Support delivery of Contact’s sustainability reporting (both internal and external).
- Participate in projects across Contact that support the delivery of our sustainability strategy and projects.
- Provide support to the wider Sustainability team by assisting in other areas or sites as required.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about sustainability and who can support, lead and influence change within a large organisation.

You’ll have a basic knowledge of key sustainability issues and have an ability to connect broad goals, values and strategic issues to practical projects and initiatives that we can implement within our business.

You’ll also have strong communication and relationship building skills - able to communicate with a range of audiences. As part of a busy team, you’ll be expected to be self-motivated, action orientated, and an excellent people person and collaborator. Prior experience working in a sustainability related role would be an advantage.

This position requires a broad set of skill and experience. Key to success in this role will be;
- Excellent communication, relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
- An understanding of sustainability and climate related issues within the wider global, national, and local context.
- Experience working in the sustainability field and/or energy sector.
- The ability to use, collate, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data to a wide range of audiences.
- Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders including community.
- Strong thought leadership capabilities, with excellent influencing skills.
- Solutions focus and able to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Integrity and high personal and professional standards.
- Understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and a basic knowledge of te reo Maori and tikanga would be advantageous.
