Interpretation Co-ordinator

Auckland Zoo is looking for an Interpretation Coordinator to help bring our exhibits to life through innovative and high-quality interpretation.

About the Role:

As an Interpretation Coordinator, you will assist in developing and delivering engaging and educational interpretative content throughout the zoo. Working closely with the Interpretation Advisor, you will ensure Auckland Zoo maintains a clear and unique voice, fostering meaningful connections with our visitors and inspiring them to take sustainable, environmentally friendly actions.

This is a permanent full-time position of 40 hours per week Monday to Friday with some weekend work as required.

The position reports directly to the Interpretation Advisor.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A creative storyteller with a passion for conservation and environmental education.
  • An excellent communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Visually aware, with an understanding of design principles and an ability to present information in an engaging way.
  • A team player, fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in digital tools, including Microsoft Office. Experience with graphic design and electronic artwork development is a plus.
  • Familiar with te reo Māori and tikanga or willing to develop their knowledge in this area.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A diploma in science communication, museum studies, journalism, teaching, or a related field.
  • Experience in interpretation, written communications, or conservation education.
  • Experience in a zoo environment is preferred but not essential.

The salary for this role is $67,000 - 70,000 (per annum, skills and experience dependant), four weeks annual leave, rising to five weeks after three years, and a range of partnership discounts and benefits; a snapshot of which can be viewed Here
